Nuneaton Borough picked up their first win of the campaign with a 1-0 win over Curzon Ashton at the Tameside Stadium.
Nuneaton who sat bottom of the National League North table heading into this clash kicked off the game and had the majority of possession early in the game and it took only nine minutes for them to take the lead.
A free kick for the Nash came to nothing and Nuneaton quickly countered with fullback Mike Calverey playing a great ball down the right flank for Dior Angus who rifled a shot into the roof of the net clipping the crossbar on its way in.
The goal seemed to liven up the Curzon attack as they quickly responded with several good chances. Connor Hughes intercepted a poor pass on the halfway line and lofted the ball to Alex Samizadeh who cut inside to cross for Ryan Brooke who’s header was just wide.
Samizadeh continued to look dangerous as he took the ball around the keeper in the 20th minute but tripped over his own feet as he tried to poke the ball into the empty net.
Curzon continued to look like the next team to score as just before halftime Joe Guest and Hughes linked up brilliantly before Hughes’ shot was saved brilliantly by Besford which allowed Nuneaton to head into halftime with the lead.
Half-time: Curzon Ashton 0-1 Nuneaton Town
There were limited chances early in the second half as the Nash pushed for an equaliser who brought on Cummins, Crankshaw and Fawns in the process.
Curzon were creating chances but not getting many shots away with the first shot coming through skipper Jonathan Hunt who tested his luck from 30 yards out.
Striker Cummins thought he had levelled with 15 minutes to go with Hughes’ corner finding him in the area however his header fell just wide.
The Nash began to slip in the final ten minutes, being dispossessed on multiple occasions and were struggling to break down a strong Nuneaton defence.
Nuneaton managed to hold on for their first win of the season and their first ever over Curzon Ashton. The result meant Curzon Ashton dropped to 15 and wasn’t enough to get Nuneaton out the relegation zone.
