We are dedicating the penultimate day of our A to Z series to our youth setup and the players who have progressed through it, in particular those who went on to enjoy success with the club's senior team. Y is for youth!
Defender Olly Thornley is the latest Nash youth product to have established himself as a regular within the first team environment. Alongside Thornley, the likes of Luke Merrill, Jack Worrall, Jack Sloan, Mark McCoy and Elliot Cooke have all been driving forces in promoting the transition between youth and first team football.
Last season we also welcomed George Broadbent, who had been with Curzon as a junior, back to the club on loan from Premier League side, Sheffield United.
Last year our youth team also completed their quadruple winning campaign, taking home the NWYA Premier League title, as well as the NWYA Premier League Cup, the NWYA Premier Open League Cup and the Manchester County Cup.
Our most senior youth team play in the North West Youth Alliance League are managed by Duncan Welsby. Our youth set-up involves almost 400 children, from as young as six years-old, and is proving a great tool for steering the shining lights of the academy towards a long-term future with the club.
As ever, volunteers are at the forefront of everything we do, and the youth set-up is no different, so we'd like to extend a huge thank you to everybody who contributes in any way to the continued success of this aspect of the club.
Make sure to check back to our club website tomorrow in order to see what our final letter, Z is dedicated to!
