FA Cup Preview FA Cup Preview

Everything you need to know about this Saturday's FA Cup tie at Stockport County

The Nash begin their 2017/18 FA Cup journey on Saturday, as John Flanagan’s side travel to Edgeley Park to face Stockport County.

Curzon go into the game on the back of four games unbeaten, the most recent coming in a 1-1 draw at home to Leamington on Monday night, Ben Wharton opened the scoring for the Nash, however a second half strike from Leamington’s Jack Edwards denied Curzon all three points

Stockport head into the game on the back of defeat, as County were defeated 3-2 by A.F.C. Telford United on Tuesday night at the New Bucks Head.

Three former Curzon men are set to face the Nash on Saturday with Connor Hampson, Matty Warburton and Sam Walker all now playing their football at Edgeley Park.

Last time we met...

The teams locked horns just over one month ago at Edgeley Park in the league, however it was a night to forget for the Nash. Goals from Harry Winter, Jason Oswell and former Curzon forward, Matty Warburton earned County a 3-0 win.

Last year in the FA Cup...

Curzon Ashton:

Last year’s FA Cup run was a historic one for the Nash, with Flanagan’s side matching the club’s highest ever finish in the famous competition, making it to the second round after an agonising 4-3 defeat to League One side AFC Wimbledon.

It could have been even better for Curzon, after the Nash led Wimbledon 3-0, courtesy of an Adam Morgan hat-trick with 10 minutes to go. However four late goals for the League One side broke Curzon hearts, denying the club a place in the third round for the first time in its history.

Despite the painful defeat the cup run was one to remember for Curzon, with wins against Consett Bedworth, York City and Westfields helping the Nash match its best ever finish in the FA Cup.

Stockport County:

County also enjoyed a fairly successful FA Cup run, making it through to the first round proper of the competition.

The Hatters recorded victories over Hyde United, Salford City and Bishop Auckland, before bowing out in the first round proper in a thrilling 4-2 defeat to National League side, Woking.

Saturday’s game will be County’s fifth consecutive home tie in the FA Cup, after all four games in their cup run last season were played at Edgeley Park.
