After five successive away trips to begin the busy pre-season schedule, Curzon return to the Tameside Stadium on Saturday when they host local rivals Stockport County.
Stockport manager Jim Gannon brings his side back to Ashton where the hosts will be out to gain a small measure of revenge after the Hatters twice edged us out by the same scoreline, 2-0, last year on their way to winning the National League North.
The second of those defeats came in the penultimate fixture of last season, but in a sign of the sweeping changes made to the first team squad over the summer, only one of the starting XI that day – goalkeeper Cam Mason – will be involved on Saturday.
Olly Thornley also started that game, but the big defender, along with new signing Nicky Wroe, is an absentee for this weekend.
The new look squad will have to be in top shape to keep out a County side that have been rampant thus far in pre-season – smashing in a combined 18 goals in their two outings against North West Counties sides Cheadle Nomads and Stockport Town.
Results have been mixed so far for the Nash, but at this stage of the season it’s all about performances and there have been many encouraging signs as Mark Bradshaw continues to implement a more possession-based style of football.
The display in Tuesday night’s 3-1 win over Stalybridge Celtic will have provided another nice boost in confidence for the coaches and players and they will hold no fear going into this one.
Kick-off is 3pm with tickets priced at £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and £3 for U16s and students.
