Match preview by Sol Finnon

Last weekend’s scintillating 4-0 league victory over Chester FC ensured that Curzon maintained their lofty position in the league (Currently 4th with a game in hand), 2 points adrift top.
Shifting attention towards Sunday’s cup outing, victory would ensure Curzon progress to the FA Cup second round for only the third time in the clubs history, and for the first time since the 16/17 season. The Tameside awaits, as we welcome ‘relative’ giants, Mansfield.

Meanwhile, Mansfield (The Stags) arrive at The Tameside with their own cup aspirations. After drawing 1-1 with Birmingham City in League One last weekend, and after beating Newcastle United’s u21s 3-0 in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy on Tuesday night, The Stags will be wanting to continue their rich vein of form. The Stags famously reached the FA Cup quarter finals in 1968/1969, and they will be dreaming to emulate that historic performance, as they enter this season’s competition on Sunday.

Curzon welcome Mansfield as new opponents, as the two sides have never played each other previously. We started our FA Cup journey in the second round of qualifying due to being tier 6, whilst Mansfield are entering the competition in the first round proper due to being tier 3. The clubs sit an astonishing 72 places apart from one another in the football pyramid, meaning that the support for The Nash at The Tameside will be more important than ever as we look to experience the magic of the cup this Sunday.

The Nash
• Curzon have played in the FA Cup proper on 5 separate occasions, with Sunday’s fixture being the sixth.
• Curzon’s best FA Cup performance has been progression to the Second Round, in which Curzon have competed in 08/09 and 16/17.
• Curzon have played three games in FA Cup qualifying to reach this stage (first round proper), defeating Barnoldswick Town 6-0 in the second qualifying round, Southport FC 1-0 in the third qualifying round, and Kings Lynn Town 1-0 in the fourth qualifying round.
• Curzon will be looking to surpass last year’s first round 1-0 defeat to Barnet. With the form, momentum and setting that we find ourselves in, excitement is to be had in regards to Sunday’s occasion

Mansfield Town
• Mansfield’s manager Nigel Clough, son of footballing managerial legend and two-time European cup winner, Brian Clough, guided Mansfield towards promotion to League One last season.
• Mansfield are competing in League One this campaign, currently sitting 4th after a great start to the season, albeit having not seen third-tier football since the 2002-2003 season.
• Mansfield were knocked out in the First round by Wrexham last season, with The Stags aiming to progress further in the cup this time around.
• One to watch out for is Lee Gregory, who has scored 7 in 13 for The Stags.

All are invited and encouraged to support The Nash on Sunday, come down and watch this monumental occasion, as we look to experience the wonder and magic of the cup.
