Match report by Joel Longworth

Curzon Ashton lost a second league game in a row on a cold and misty Saturday afternoon. A well taken goal by Jimmy Spencer for Curzon was followed by three unanswered goals for Farsley; a Finn O’Boyle double and a third from DJ Sturridge.

The Nash started the game well dominating all the early possession but were not able to test Farsley’s goalkeeper, Isaac Abankwah had the first chance of the game for Farsley Celtic but his shot was blazed over the bar.

Curzon had their first opportunity after 10 minutes, as Jordan Richards drove the ball towards the penalty area and his shot was deflected for a corner.

With 20 minutes on the clock Farsley had a massive chance to score the first goal of the afternoon. The ball was played through to Joao Silva who was 1-on-1 with Bobby Jones who saved his effort. Curzon responded quickly and themselves had a chance to take the lead as Jordan Richards whipped a low left footed ball across the box however Farsley defender Sam Fielding smashed his shot right at the keeper.

Just after the half hour mark, The Nash broke the deadlock, Stefan Mols took an inswinging left footed corner which was whipped across the box and found the head of Curzon captain, Jimmy Spencer.

Unfortunately, after just 6 minutes Farsley Celtic found an equaliser. Isaac Abankwah picked the ball up and drove through the heart of Curzon’s midfield playing a through ball to Finn O’Boyle who slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.

As the game entered the 45th minute Farsley doubled their lead through Finn O’Boyle who got his second goal of the game, Curzon failed to clear the ball and Ruby Misambo placed a header across the box to O’Boyle who hit a beautiful left footed volley into the top left corner.

Curzon Ashton ended the half 2 – 1 down as Farsley were more clinical taking their chances.

As the second half got underway, The Nash made their first substitution of the afternoon with Luke Griffiths making way for Player/Manager Craig Mahon.

Farsley started the second half as they ended the first, with Finn O’Boyle having a chance to complete his hattrick. In the 52nd minute, Devon Matthews was shown a debatable second yellow card as he brought down Cole Hyde in a dangerous position and The Nash were down to 10 men. 55 minutes in and Curzon made another substitution with Isaac Buckley-Ricketts departing the field for Michael Afuye.

With 20 minutes of the game remaining, substitute DJ Sturridge scored Farsley’s third goal and subsequently, final goal of the afternoon.

As the game entered the final stages, Curzon Ashton had some chances to claw themselves back into the game with Adam Barton and Craig Mahon missing great opportunities to get a goal back for The Nash. Down to ten men the The Nash kept pressing and fighting for every ball hoping to give the Nash fans late Christmas present.

Curzon will look to return to winning ways when they play away at Alfreton Town on Wednesday the 1st of January.
