Match Report by Lewis McInnes
Goals from Tony Weston, Alex Curran and Brad Holmes sealed all three points for Mark Bradshaw’s men at the Tameside Stadium.
In what was a cagey first 10 minutes with neither side stamping their authority on the game, King’s Lynn had the first effort of the encounter as Reece Hall-Johnson saw his effort fizz wide of Callum Hawkins’ goal. In the 15th minute The Linnets kept the pressure on with successive corners with the second seeing Thomas Wilson head over at the back post.
Five minutes later Curzon had their first opportunity of the game as Alex Curran slid a pass through to skipper Jimmy Spencer whose curling effort went just over the bar.
The next attack saw the deadlock broken as in the 24th minute, Jimmy Spencer found himself with space and time to play through Tony Weston, who rounded the on-rushing Aaron Chapman and finished clinically from a tight angle to notch his 6th goal of the season.
The rest of the chances in the first half fell to the visitors as Hawkins was forced into two great saves just after the half hour mark, the first a thunderous effort from Hall-Johnson that was tipped over the crossbar and a smart near-post stop from Adam Marriott’s shot.
HT 1-0
The 49th minute saw the first chance of the second half as Chi Ezennolim was found by Curran inside the box but his effort was smashed over the bar.
King’s Lynn had a great opportunity to equalise in the 58th minute, as Marriott was found free in the penalty area. He fired a shot past Hawkins, but Jordan Richards was on hand with a last ditch clearance off the line before Ben Darby steered the ball out for a corner, maintaining the one goal lead.
Curzon remained poised and started to gain momentum late in the game and in the 70th minute, Spencer was played through and brought down in the box, but play continued as Tony Weston picked up the pieces and dinked an effort towards goal which was palmed away by Chapman.
Mark Bradshaw turned to his bench for the first time in the 78th minute, with Timi Sobowale and Jack Stobbs coming on to replace Jordan Richards and goal scorer Tony Weston.
Five minutes later the lead was doubled as a long ball from Adam Barton was latched on to by Curran, who poked the ball past Chapman before rolling the ball home for his 5th goal of the season, the goal scorer was then replaced by Brad Holmes in the home side’s final substitution.
There was time for the visitors to have one last effort of their own as Morgan Williams’ strike from outside the box was safely collected by Hawkins.
The game wasn’t finished just yet as the fourth official indicated six minutes of stoppage time. In the 90+4th minute, Brad Holmes found himself one-on-one with Chapman as he composed himself and pushed the ball past the goalkeeper before smashing in from close-range to seal the points for Mark Bradshaw’s men.
