Match Report by Dan Needham.

The Seadogs scored twice in the second half to secure three points at the Tameside Stadium.

The hosts started enthusiastically with high pressing, great build up play, and early chances from Ben Darby and Alex Curran.

A late challenge on Alex Curran resulted in a free kick for the Nash, which was claimed by Jordan Richards. Richards’ strike directed into the top left corner, before goalkeeper, Ryan Whitley, got his hands to it.

In the 27th minute, Curzon’s Adam Barton dragged down Rio Allan, who was through on goal due to Amado’s unfortunate slip. After Barton received a red card for his foul, Allan’s free kick soared straight into the wall and cleared away from danger.

Curzon’s captain Jimmy Spencer limped off the pitch during the first 45 minutes with an injury, as Brad Holmes was substituted on for the Nash.

Throughout the rest of the first half, the absence of Barton was visible, with many chances coming from Scarborough’s Rio Allan and Alex Purver. Despite this, neither team could take the lead within the first half.

HT: 0-0

Mark Bradshaw started the half with a double substitution with Tony Weston & Alex Curran making way for Joe Rodwell-Grant and Crispin McLean.

The first big chance of the second half came in the 56th minute when Ben Darby’s optimistic strike took a huge deflection which threw off Ryan Whitley. The effort hit the post in pursuit of Curzon’s opening goal of the match.

Curzon were visibly struggling to create chances throughout the second half, and were forced to play defensively.

In the 68th minute, Rio Allan made the scoreline 1-0 with a short range, one-touch finish following a great low driven cross into the box.

Only 4 minutes after Scarborough’s first goal, they doubled their lead. Kieran Weledji made a clever run in behind to reach a through ball, and comfortably slotted his strike in the bottom left corner.

With ten minutes left of the match, Scarborough’s Dom Tear was shown a second yellow for a tackle from behind, and the ten men of Curzon now faced the 10 men of Scarborough.

In the 90th minute, Ben Darby slid in with a toe poke to pull a goal back for the hosts, as faith was restored that a point could potentially be salvaged.

Depsite Curzon’s best efforts, including a chance in the very final moments of the game from Charlie Weston, they were not able to equalise. Despite the disappointing result, the Nash did well to not concede with 10 men for a large portion of the game.

FT: 1-2

The Nash now look to get back to winning ways next Saturday in the FA Trophy at Ilkeston Town.
