Men’s team: Hyde United 3-3 Curzon Ashton (4-5 on penalties)
The Nash began another double game week with a trip to Hyde United in the Manchester Premier Cup.
After a dominant opening 15 minutes, Curzon found themselves with a two-goal lead after Alex Curran opened the scoring with a powerful strike from the edge of the box and Ben Connolly tapped home from close range from a Jack Stafford cross.
Despite the fast start, the hosts got themselves back in the game through Harry Ditchfield just after the 20-minute mark and sent the sides into the break at 2-1.
As the second half progressed, Curzon looked likely to extend their lead as Jack Stafford and Harry Olufowobi both went close for the away side, but against the run of play it would be Lewis Rawsthorn who would finish smartly for Hyde to square the game up heading into the final 15 minutes.
With 10 minutes of normal time remaining there was still time for more twists as Max Harrop would complete Hyde’s comeback and put them in front, but Brad Holmes would then equalise with his sixth goal of the season and set up a penalty shootout to see who would progress.
Josh Ollerenshaw would make the crucial save to send Curzon through with Tony Weston, Brad Holmes, Charlie Weston, Jack Stafford and Timi Sobowale all converting their spot kicks.
Curzon Ashton 2-1 Alfreton Town
The Nash then returned home on Saturday as Alfreton Town made the trip to the Tameside Stadium.
The breakthrough came from the home side as Crispin McLean’s pinpoint pass was latched on to by Tony Weston. He rounded the oncoming Harry Burgoyne in the Alfreton goal and slotted the ball home for his ninth goal of the season.
Curzon continued to dominate the majority of the play and went into half time with their one goal lead still intact.
However, that lead would be wiped out on 47 minutes as Bayley McCann smashed in the equaliser for the away side.
The final 30 minutes were dominated by Mark Bradshaw’s men with Alex Curran and Tony Weston both having opportunities to put The Nash back in the lead.
But, with four minutes of additional time added at the end of the game, it was substitute Brad Holmes who would score his second goal in as many games to secure all three points for Curzon and a first home win since October.
