The Nash
Curzon will be looking for inspiration from last year and the epic cup runs of old but face a tricky challenge against lower league opposition, quite simply this would be a “cupset” if they were to lose.
Craig Mahon will need to decide if he sticks with the 11 that have started the vast majority of games this season, or reverts to some of those whose game time has been limited due to The Nash’s positive start to the season. Mike Afuye, Ben Darby and Timi Sobowale have made a number of substitute appearances, but are yet to start in the beautiful blue this season, along with George Waring and the manager himself looking for a run out and game time.
The management team may also use the game see some of the youth prospects signed late in the summer through the Curzon system with new face’s ready to have their name’s sung loudly at the Tameside Stadium.
After 8 league games this season, they currently sit in 8th place with 17 points, however some teams (including the top 4 in the league) have played double figures in games, so it can certainly be said, Barlick have had a positive start to the season.
By making it to the 2nd qualifying to round of the competition, beating Lancaster City of the Northern Premier League (step 7), this is the furthest the club has ever progressed, so they will be giving it absolutely everything to cause an upset having done so already in the 1st qualifying round.
