After Saturday’s disappointing result against Hereford, Craig Mahon made changes to the starting 11 with Luis Lacey and Mike Afuye in place of Isaac Buckley-Ricketts and the manager himself moving to places on the bench. Adam Barton continued to be missing from the squad along with Ben Darby, meaning two of The Nash youngsters, Cameron Tetlow and Charlie Bingley, completed the bench
The first 10 minutes delivered chances for both sides, Frank Mulhern having a shot saved and Afuye (on his first league start) causing numerous problems down Curzon’s right hand side, his shot being blocked/deflected and falling wide.
On the 30 minute mark, a dangerous Luke Griffiths ball into the box caused chaos in the Seadogs backline, both Devon Matthews and Afuye again having chances blocked. Before half time another chance for The Nash fell to Isaac Sinclair, but once again the Scarborough backline got back to scupper a clear chance.
Half time: 0-0
The second half kicked off with a bang! The first chance fell to Scarborough, Bobby Jones making a good save from Glynn, the ball fell to Curzon to counter, where the chance was created, the ball looked to have crossed the line for a goal, however, the referee said no and the game continued.
Not long into the half, Mahon made his way onto the field replacing Griffiths.
The first goal of the game came on 65, Stefan Mols, bored of a 0-0 lashed the ball home from the edge of the area, the 17 travelling fans delighted with the goal. One nil Curzon!
A delay in play on 70’ after Harry Green went down injured (It looked a nasty one, so we wish him well on recovery), as he left the field of play on a stretcher. Curzon immediately took the next chance to attack. Lacey got round the back of the Borough defence, whose shot rebounded to Stefan Mols to slot home, 2-0 Curzon. The Scarborough commentary mentioning that in every game Mols has scored, he has not lost a game of senior football!
Scarborough nearly immediately found a way back into the game, Mulhern again with the chance that smashed against the cross bar.
With 5 to play Mols thought he had his Hatrick, but the pesky assistant referee raised the flag for offside.
Eight minutes were added on to the 90, with the only incident of note being when the referee, head steward and club secretary were called to the sideline to discuss something shouted from the crowd.
That, quite simply, is a brilliant result and performance. To go away on a Tuesday night and get those three points against Scarborough, missing some key players.
Full time: 0-2
WOW. On to Saturday when we head back to the Tameside for a clash with Chester.
