A familiar face at The Tameside Stadium in recent years, Barry initially joined Curzon Ashton when he became a regular at the walking football initiative.
Pictured here following an unpredictable cold spell which saw the walking footballers raid the lost property box – thankfully this proved fruitful as they went on to win their game 6-2.
After falling in love with the club Barry became a loyal fan, following the club both home and away before unfortunately Covid ended the season
In 2021 football returned and so did Barry, this time not only as a supporter but as a volunteer, working every home game at The Tameside Stadium looking after the players tunnel.
With his unwavering support and commitment he became a familiar face with the first team, commenting on the sad news, First Team Manager, Craig Mahon said:
“Barry was a true gentleman and respected by all the team. Always there with his words of wisdom at half time and full time. He will be sorely missed by everyone at Curzon Ashton FC. RIP Baz, thanks for all you done (sic).”
In more recent years, he attended games/scouting missions, with Assistant Manager, Mark Bradshaw, to look at opposition and recruitment of new players as well as sponsoring current first team player, Jordan Richards this season.
He continued supporting and volunteering at The Nash, right up until our Boxing Day home fixture against Farsley Celtic, which sadly would be Barry’s last game.
He will be sorely missed by everyone at the club and we thank him enormously for his support
RIP, Barry
