Rory returns to The Nash to take up the position as Reserve Team Manager and is joined by his Assistant Manager, Paul Cocks.
A Football & Management graduate, Rory first joined the club during his time at university where he undertook various roles during his 3 year stint at The Nash, from winning the quadruple as the U18s coach during his first year to assisting the first team management with their training and analysis.
After leaving the club in April 2020 Rory moved back down south, after brief hiatus due to Covid, Rory landed a job at MK Dons Sport & Education Trust, a number of clubs followed most notably becoming 1st team coach at Banbury United where they won the Southern League (step 3).
In 2024 Rory moved back to Manchester where he currently works as a football mentor and foundation phase coach at Foundation 92.
Speaking on his appointment, Rory commented:
I’m incredibly proud and excited to return to the club which I know very well and take on the role of Reserve Manager at Curzon Ashton Football Club. This is a club with a rich history and the kind of ambition that matches my own. From the first conversation with directors, it was clear that this is a place where I can make a real impact, both on and off the pitch.
I want to thank the board for putting their trust in me. I understand the responsibility that comes with leading this team, and I don’t take it lightly. My focus from day one will be building a strong, united squad, instilling a winning mentality, whilst developing our young players.
Let’s get to work.

Joining Rory as Assistant Manager is Paul Cocks, much like Rory, Paul is no stranger to The Nash having held positions as coach with the Women’s 1st Team, the 9-16 youth teams and alongside Rory as an U18s coach with the quadruple winning side in 2018.
Following his departure from the club, Paul now works for Manchester City in their Football Education Department.
Speaking on his appointment, Manager Rory Shadbolt said:
I’m pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Cocks as my Assistant Manager ahead of the upcoming season.
With a strong background in coaching and player development, Paul brings a wealth of experience to the staff. His tactical acumen, leadership on the training ground, and ability to connect with players across all levels.
Paul brings fresh ideas, strong work ethic, and a deep understanding of the game that will be invaluable as we look to push forward this season.”
Welcome back, Rory & Paul.
