Match Preview by Leon Higgins

A third successive 1-1 draw with Chester on Tuesday night meant Mark Bradshaw’s side remain unbeaten and are looking for that first victory of the season.

The visitors have had the opposite start with two wins followed by a home defeat to Marine on Tuesday. The Martyrs made the step up to the National League North for the first time after being crowned champions of the Southern Premier League with 91 points last season. Merthyr have had two players in ‘team of the weeks’ with goalkeeper Jamie Cogman featuring in GW 1 and striker Ricardo Rees featuring in GW 2 after a double away at Peterborough Sports.

In recent weeks the South Wales side have been busy with the signings of Morgan Lewis from Weston Super Mare, Wales U21 International Jay Williams from Sutton, Kai Churchley from Bristol City, Brandon Smalley from Gloucester City and former Wales U19 international Lewys Twamley from Yeovil.

Management Preview:

Speaking in his post-match interview on Tuesday night, following Curzon’s third successive 1-1 draw this season, head coach Mark Bradshaw commented:

For the Nash fans last season even though we had a good season we were slightly disappointing at home and I really wanted to make a massive effort in improving us. The number of goals we score at home, the way that we play and hopefully the results – and it doesn’t matter who it is we will be trying to do that.

We’ll have a plan, we’ll be prepared, we’ll have a think about what team to play and we’ll have a look at what they’ve done tonight (Tuesday) – I think they’ve lost tonight, which will be their first defeat in this league – but every game is tough, there’s no easy games and every challenge is different.

We want to turn these draws into wins and that’s what we’ve got to work towards.

Happy Hour:

Ahead of Saturday afternoon’s fixture the Nash Bar within the stadium will be open from twelve o’clock and will be holding a ‘happy hour’ between 12-2pm with all pints of lager and cider available for £4.

The bar will be showing the Premier League early ko – Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur.

All fans welcome!
