Match preview by Leon Higgins

Following Saturday’s point in the North East Curzon head South this time in quest for more crucial points in the race for promotion. After wins for Brackley at home to Spennymoor, Scunthorpe at home to South Shields and Chester with an impressive 4-2 win at Scarborough, Craig Mahon’s side know wins are crucial to be able to keep up with the fellow promotion chasing sides.

Curzon sit 6th in the league table with 46 points from 25 games with the majority of sides, aside from Kidderminster Harriers and Brackley Town in the top 5 all playing 28 games.
Chester currently sit top of the table with 52 points, closely followed by Scunthorpe on 51, Kidderminster (50), Brackley (49) and Kings Lynn (48).

At the other end of the table, Oxford City currently sit in 18th, 5 points above the relegation zone following an excellent point at the MGroup Stadium against Kidderminster on Saturday. This season is a return to the National League regional system following relegation from the National League last season, the first time in the club’s history that they appeared in the fifth tier of English football and after sacking Sam Cox in Gameweek 8, Ross Jenkins returned to the club after leaving for Boreham Wood in 2022 and has since got a 1.60 points per game record with 6 wins, 6 draws and 5 losses to turn the Hoops fortunes round.

Prior to Saturday’s point against Kidderminster, Oxford have had mixed results in their last 5 games with wins against fellow relegation side Rushall Olympic combined with a loss at home to Brackley and a point against Chorley. Those league games come in the middle of a 3-0 FA Trophy success at Biggleswade Town and a 2-1 Oxfordshire Senior Cup win at Clanfield 85.
