A single goal scored by Kidderminster’s Luke Spokes was enough to separate the two sides as the Nash fell to a 1-0 defeat at the Tameside Stadium.
Team news – here
It was a positive opening 20 minutes for the Nash as they started the half on the front foot, dominating possession and playing some attacking football that led to a number of chances, with Tony Weston and captain Jimmy Spencer going closest on the 21st minute when the ball fell to Spencer after a scramble in the box, however his resulting shot was smothered by Dibble in the Kidderminster net.
Unfortunately for Curzon they couldn’t take advantage and capitalise on their dominant first half display and the score remained deadlocked as they approached the end of the first half.
HT 0-0
The second half got underway with Kidderminster making three changes in the 46th minute – Clarke, Devine & Thompson all making way for Morgan-Smith, Bird and eventual goalscorer Spokes, followed by a double change for Mark Bradshaw’s team in the 60th minute as Tony Weston and Crispin Mclean were replaced by Joe Rodwell-Grant and Brad Holmes.
The first twenty minutes of the second half was end-to-end, with no major chances and neither side able to get a foothold in the game, a half chance on 70 minutes for Kidderminster was taken comfortably by Curzon number one, Callum Hawkins, before The Nash went down the other end and had a chance on goal themselves through substitute Brad Holmes.
With both sides still looking for that opening goal Kidderminster were applying the pressure, the influence of substitute Morgan-Smith opened up Curzon and it didn’t take long before fellow second half substitute Spokes got the breakthrough for the Harriers – a low strike through bodies into the bottom corner of the net put the visitors 1-0 up in the 76th minute.
With only 15 minutes left to play Curzon were pushing for the equaliser to guarantee they wouldn’t leave the Tameside Stadium empty handed.
The 84th minute saw that chance arrive as Joe Rodwell-Grant received the ball on the far side, ran down the wing, passing Kidderminster midfielder Ryley Reynolds and crossed the ball into the box, goalkeeper Dibble spilled the ball and it fell to Curzon captain Jimmy Spencer, who couldn’t find the equaliser as he put his shot over the bar.
This proved to be Jimmy Spencer’s final involvement of the game as Bradshaw made his final substitution of the day with the introduction of Harry Olufowobi.
Into the last minutes of the game Curzon had another chance to level the score as what seemed like a stonewall penalty, when Curzon number 14 was brought down inside the box, was waved away by the referee.
As the referee signalled for full-time it was the visitors who claimed all three points with a narrow 1-0 victory.
