The Nash named the same line up as they had to face Scunthorpe earlier this week and started on the front foot. Before 10 minutes they thought they had broken the deadlock through Jimmy Spencer with a tap in at the back post, but despite The Nash faithful dancing in delight, the flag went up from the assistant, offside.
The Linnets then pushed forward and despite sustained pressure couldn’t create anything really clear cut, besides a couple of bookings from poor challenges. They did go close when Jonny Margetts touched the ball from a cross, but also caught more of the goal frame that actually led to the striker being replaced by Gold Omotayo around the 35th minute.
However, moments later, Curzon took the lead from an indirect free kick after a Kings Lynn player was caught having a little nap on the ball in the box causing obstruction. Luke Griffiths touched the ball to Stefan Mols who slid the ball past a diving goalkeeper to take the lead. The Nash fans this time could celebrate fully!
Curzon then tried to control play up to half time, but it was nearly 1-1 at the break when Omotayo had a chance to play in McCammon but the ball went wide. Half time 1-0 to Curzon.
The second half went by without much incident, until the 67th minute when Isaac Buckley-Ricketts decided 1-0 was too risky for The Nash. He thought “why not” as he drifted past 3 Kings Lynn defenders to smash a rocket into the far corner from 18 yards, past an on-looking Lynn goalkeeper who didn’t move, 2-0 and what a goal! (Can’t wait for the highlights on that one!)
Curzon were now in control and their counter-attacking style was well suited for the occasion, but in fact, it wasn’t really needed. The Linnets failed to provide a real thread to the organized and determined Nash backline with Bobby Jones not having to stretch very far and Curzon making use of their substitutes as they could celebrate the victory and being 2nd in the league.
A small break from the league now as The Nash start their FA Cup journey next weekend at home against Barnoldswick Town.
