Match Report by Joel Longworth

Goals from Tony Weston and Ben Darby were enough to see Curzon progress.

The Nash started the game slowly and the opponents nearly took advantage in the 2nd minute of the game when Bury’s Joshua Ashe was found inside the box, but his effort was well saved by Callum Hawkins. Curzon’s first chance came through Ben Darby, as he sent Tony Weston through with his bending effort going just wide.

As the game reached the 20th minute, Bury continued to threaten, with Regan Riley trying his luck from range and forcing a good save from Hawkins.

The Shakers continued to knock on the door as in the 25th minute Rustam Stepans ran into the box from the right hand side as he crossed the ball into the six yard box, however Harry Olufowobi headed the ball off the line brilliantly.

With 15 minutes of the first half to go Jack Stobbs sent a looping cross into the box with goalkeeper Russell Saunders having to push it over the bar.

After Curzon failed to capitalise on a corner swung in by Stobbs, Bury went down the other end and earned a corner of their own. From it, they took the lead in the 44th minute through Momodou Touray.

HT 0-1

Curzon began the second half with manager Mark Bradshaw making his first substitution of the game as he brought on club captain Jimmy Spencer for Jack Stafford.

Bury created the opening chance of the half when Kai Evans’ effort from outside the box smashed off the crossbar. The Nash responded in the 55th minute as Cian Flannery played the ball over the top for Ben Darby, whose shot was saved and turned behind for a corner. From the resulting corner, the ball fell to Harry Olufowobi, but he was denied by a superb save from Russell Saunders.

On the hour mark, Mark Bradshaw made his second substitution as Alex Curran replaced Brad Holmes.

In the 61st minute, Curzon equalised as Tony Weston scored his 10th goal of the season – Curran made an Instant impact as he played the ball across the box for Tony Weston to tap home.

On the 69th minute, Mark Bradshaw made his third substitution as Joel Amado came on to replace Chibuike Ezennolim.

With 15 minutes left of the second half to go both teams were looking for that all important second goal. On the 79th minute, Mark Bradshaw made his fourth change as Timi Sobowale came on to replace Harry Olufowobi.

As the clock hit the 81st minute, Tony Weston was in for The Nash but he was denied brilliantly by Russell Saunders in the Shakers net.

On the 83rd minute, Mark Bradshaw made his final substitution as Jordan Richards came on to replace Ben Connolly.

On the 88th minute, Curzon found the all important second goal and the winner through Ben Darby who scored his 5th goal of the season. The corner was played short for Jordan Richards who sent the ball into the box as Darby had a free header to put The Nash into the semi-finals.

FT 1-2

The Nash will now turn their attention back to National League North action as they welcome AFC Telford United to The Tameside Stadium this Saturday with a 3pm KO.
