The first 45 were a slow burner, but the only goalkeeper who made a save was Curzon new boy – Bobby Jones who saved comfortably when required with a shot from distance and also one with his feet down low to concede a corner. Curzon struggled to create any form of clear opportunity, only once did last year’s star man for Warrington – Isaac Buckley-Ricketts get in behind his full back, but his driven cross evaded everyone in the box. Player/Manager Craig Mahon had work to do at half time.

Half time: 0-0

That first job in that second half seemed to be removing himself from play with Luke Griffiths entering the pitch. In the post-match interview, he alluded to how he felt they were “much better after taking myself off!” He then spoke about how he felt he had been sloppy on the ball and a change was needed and emphasized the importance of being able to be selfless for the team and success will follow. The team certainly did then step up.

The first goal came from excellent work from Issac Sinclair in midfield, winning the ball high up and playing through to Jimmy Spencer who just beat the on-rushing Marketman goalkeeper to a touch as the ball then rolled into an empty net.

The 2nd goal came before those celebrating had retaken their seats; this time goal scorer Spencer became provider for Stefan Mols to pick up where he finished last season and opened his account with a neat finish when 1 on 1.

The pressure from the day had now lifted, which nearly showed when a poor pass out was intercepted by a Needham player from Jones, however the latter recovered well to save with his feet again.

The final goal came after a stunning free kick from 25 yards by Griffiths which unfortunately hit the inside of the post, however the rebound was collected by substitute Michael Afuye, the cross at the 2nd attempt reached the head of Spencer which was flicked into the far corner of the net.

A good start for Curzon who now travel North to South Shields in a week’s time for their 1st away trip of the season.

Full time: 3-0
