Match Report by Dan Needham.
A first half goal from Alex Curran secured all three points for the Nash against 24th placed Peterborough Sports.
The visitors threatened Curzon early on into the game, with set-piece routines and missed opportunities. The turbines dominated possession whilst also having chances on goal.
However, Curzon Ashton went 1-0 up in the 18th minute with a close-range strike from Alex Curran, which sneaked into the bottom corner. Ezennolim effectively won Curzon their first corner of the game, before it was crossed into Curran to give the hosts the advantage.
In the 34th minute, Curzon almost doubled their lead. Ben Darby’s volley inside of the box was miraculously stopped and cleared by Sam Straughan-Brown to stop Darby from extending the hosts’ lead.
Despite good chances and efforts from Peterborough Sports, including a long range attempt from Dan Jarvis, they could not find an equalising goal before the half time whistle at the Tameside Stadium.
HT 1-0
Peterborough Sports started the second half applying the pressure and searching for that equalising goal, however, despite a number of half chances the ball ultimately ended up in the hands of Hawkins in the Curzon net.
Approaching the half hour mark, head coach Mark Bradshaw made his first change of the afternoon with Brad Holmes replacing Tony Weston.
In the 68th minute, Charlie Weston displayed a moment of magic as he skipped through Peterborough’s midfield, before playing Curran through on goal. Curran squared the ball to Spencer, yet Spencer failed to find the back of the net with his ambitious attempt.
Peterborough came close to levelling the score in the 72nd minute, as Jer Danks’s attempt narrowly missed the woodwork and soared over the crossbar followed by the second change of the afternoon for Bradshaw;s men, as goalscorer Alex Curran made way for Crispin McLean.
A final chance for the hosts saw substitute Brad Holmes in a one-on-one with the keeper, yet he couldn’t take the ball around him, failing to kill off the game for Curzon.
Phil Brown’s side had a chance in the dying moments of the game with a strike from Connor Wood which missed the target in the 90+3rd minute. Despite this chance, and several others which included the goalkeeper coming up for two corners, the visitors failed to score an equaliser.
Mark Bradshaw’s men remained resilient to hold onto their 1-0 lead and see the game out until the final whistle, to secure a vital three points.
