1-1

With the hosts sitting second in the table, just behind league leaders Chester, The Nash could expect a tough game against former football league opposition.

Scunthorpe United dominated possession in the opening period with multiple shots on goal, the closest being in the 10th minute following some great build up play, the ball was lashed into the box from the right hand side and striker, Danny Whitehall, flicked the ball goalward, however his shot went wide – early warning signs for the Nash who were still yet to make an impact in the early stages.

After some end-to-end football, with the better chances falling to the hosts, the deadlock was finally broken in the 28th minute of the game thanks to Curzon number 8, Isaac Sinclar, who put the Nash ahead against the run of play. A whipped in ball found the feet of Luke Griffiths who pulled the ball back and Sinclair converted, smashing it passed Scunthorpe goalkeeper, Ross Fitzsimons.

However, less than 10 minutes later, with the end of the half approaching, The Irons had a huge chance to equal the scoring, Scunthorpe number 10, Callum Roberts received the ball out wide before cutting in and shooting but his attempt prompted a fantastic double save by Curzon Ashton goalkeeper, Bobby Jones.

HT 0-1

(A double change for the Nash in quick succession due to injury, saw Jordan Richards replaced by Ben Darby and Curzon Ashton captain, Jimmy Spencer make way for new signing Alex Curran.)

The second half started just the same as the first half ended, with both teams having their share of possession and chances.

The first big chance of the half fell to Curzon Ashton, as Isaac Buckley-Ricketts went close to doubling the lead for The Nash, after some skillful play down the left hand side he cut inside and his shot hit the post.

As the game progressed Curzon grew into the game, defending and blocking every shot hoping to leave The Attis Arena with all three points and narrow the point gap at the top of the table.

The hosts continued desperately searching for the equaliser, they went close once again through Callum Roberts, whose 25 yard free-kick was tipped over the crossbar by Jones.

As the 90th minute approached the referee indicated that there would be four minutes of stoppage time.

Into the last 60 seconds, Scunthorpe’s 60th minute substitute, forward, Mo Fadera hit a powerful shot that beat the Curzon defense and passed an outstretched Bobby Jones, to salvage a point for The Irons.
