Men’s team: Darlington 3-3 Curzon Ashton

The Nash began the week with a trip to Darlington on Tuesday night that ended in a six-goal thriller at Blackwell Meadows.

The game got off to a fast start as Cedric Main reacted quickest to a save from Callum Hawkins to stab home the opener within 90 seconds for the hosts.

Jack Stobbs then curled a delightful free kick into the top left corner on 18 minutes, which saw the sides go into half time level, with all the play for in the second half.

At half-time Alex Curran came on to replace Jordan Richards and Curran got involved in the action straight away as in the 47th minute his left footed shot hit the foot of the post before ricocheting onto Scott Barrow and trickling over the line, giving The Nash the perfect start tothe second half.

Just before the hour mark the hosts got themselves level as Lennon cut in off the left-hand side and fired his low effort past Hawkins at his near post.

Tony Weston was introduced off the bench by Mark Bradshaw and put Curzon back in front with a thunderous volley into the bottom right corner with just under 15 minutes left to play.

However, the final twist of the game would swing Darlington’s way as Will McGowan’s curled finish ended off a frantic night of goalscoring with the spoils being shared.

Curzon Ashton 1-3 AFC Fylde

Saturday then saw the return of Craig Mahon to the Tameside Stadium as his AFC Fylde side went top of the league with their sixth away league win in a row.

Curzon had the better chances in the opening 40 minutes with Tony Weston missing two great opportunities to open the scoring. However, it was Joel Amado who smashed home the opener after a well-worked corner to notch his first league goal of the season.

The lead was short lived as the visitors got themselves back on level terms through Luca Thomas just before half-time leaving all to play for in the second half.

Mark Bradshaw’s men held out until the 74th minute before Fylde got their noses in front for the first time through an own goal from Joe Rodwell-Grant. The game would be all but sealed five minutes later as Luca Thomas got his second of the game to seal the win for the visitors.

Reserves: Curzon Ashton 3-2 Wilmslow Albion

Paul Cocks’ side gained all three points after a dramatic encounter on Saturday afternoon.

Curzon burst out of the blocks and raced into a 2-0 lead, stamping their authority on the game early on. The domination continued and the home side were unlucky not to add to their lead with a flurry of chances squandered and seeing a goal ruled out.

However, Wilmslow fought and grew into the game and found themselves level through a Curzon defensive error and a penalty.

Despite the setback, Curzon refused to surrender the points. Deep into stoppage time, captain Josh Rushby delivered a stunning free kick that snatched the points for the home side in dramatic fashion – a moment of real leadership and quality.

In the end, the result was what Curzon deserved after dominating large periods of the game and showing great resilience when the game turned against them.

The Reserves’ next fixture will be away to Macclesfield on 13th December at UCLAN Sports Arena, with kick-off at 2:00PM.
