Men’s team: Curzon Ashton 1-2 Marine

The Nash were knocked out of the FA Trophy on Saturday as Marine snatched a last gasp winner at the Tameside Stadium.

Alex Curran opened the scoring after 28 minutes with the home side having the better of the opening stages of the encounter. Tony Weston’s low drive from the edge of the box was parried out by Fraser Barnsley and it was Curran who reacted quickest to tuck away his ninth goal of the season.

However, the momentum took a shift before half-time and Marine found their equaliser through Finlay Sinclair-Smith as he shifted onto his left-foot and found the top-right corner of Callum Hawkins’ net.

Tony Weston went closest for Curzon in the second half with his effort whistling just wide of the post as the clock ticked into the final 10 minutes.

The Mariners continued to create chances of their own throughout the second half and eventually got their reward in the 90th minute as Lewis Bell tapped home a cross from Finlay Sinclair-Smith to progress to the fourth round of the FA Trophy.

The Nash return to league action next Saturday with a trip to Merthyr Town in Wales, with kick-off at 3:00PM.
