Craig Mahon’s Curzon Ashton remained unchanged in their starting 11 at their away visit to Scunthorpe United.
With the only change being Stefan Mols inclusion back onto the bench, the hosts began the brightest with a number of chances however couldn’t capitalise as Curzon’s back 3 remained compact.
George Waring was shown a yellow card 13 minutes in following a strong foul on Dion Sembi-Ferris, and just 4 minutes later Danny Elliots vicious shots from 20 yards out bended just wide of the post.
The game remained in Scunthorpe’s hand with Cam Mason making a brilliant double save denying Whitehall the opportunity to break the deadlock. The Nash got into their groove and drove forwards leaving Jordan Richards winning a foul just outside the 18 yard box.
Up stepped Jimmy Spencer’s whose looping headed rooted Fitzsimons to the spot sending the travelling Nash supporters into pandemonium. As the second half kicked off, the momentum remained the same with Scunthorpe applying waves after waves of pressure but Curzon’s resolute defensive remained strong.
The best chance of the game fell to Danny Whitehall 73 minutes into the game as his header from blasts over the bar from 2 yards out. Stefan Mols addition to the squad boosted Curzon’s attacking play as his effortless runs caused Scunthorpe’s defence issues, after Hughes and Kenyon both received yellows for stopping the hosts counter the 4thofficial held up 5 minutes additional time and after a few nervous crosses caused Cam Mason no issue and the Nash held onto a historic double against Scunthorpe United.
